Sydney Fringe: The Local

(download)

Think the Norfolk Hotel. Think the Carrington Hotel. For those of us who've lived in inner city Sydney over the last few years you know what its like when your loveable dive becomes a hipster's heaven. That's what the Local is all about. A must see Sydney Fringe show and I've got a double pass for this puppy so tweet me for it.  It's running at the Sidetrack Theatre Marrickville Thursday 22nd Sep - Sunday 25th.

'It's a barfight.

When local boys Ben and Keith Munro find their beloved pub renovated into Sydney's "hottest" new bar, they're more than a little upset. In fact, they're bat-sh*t crazy.

Casting a satirical eye over Sydney bar and pub culture and the urban "tribes" - from yuppies to hipsters (and beyond) - that colour it, "The Local" draws on influences from Williamson to "Black Books" and "The League Of Gentlemen".

So join the Munros on their deranged quest to purge their local of yuppies, real-estate agents, and Young Liberals. It's one hour of mayhem, coarse language, justifiable violence... and park cricket. Take guard.'
